Kia ora Waterlea Whaanau

Waterlea tamariki have been practising running and getting fit for when we have the Waterlea School Cross Country for the Middle and Senior School students. The Year 1 & 2 tamariki don’t have a cross country event as such but do hold a Junior School Fun Run which we had last Friday. Lots of our whaanau came along to encourage our youngest runners and we were very lucky with the weather! Please check out some stories by our Year 1 tamariki and photos of our fun day.

You will have seen the links to the parent survey in an email from the Waterlea School Board. The survey is linked here too and we will email it out again at the end of the week. The board is very keen to get your voice and it doesn’t take very long, so grab a cuppa and please complete the Waterlea Whaanau Survey here. The last day for the survey to be completed is Friday 18 September.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Middle School Show – Moana Jnr. For more information regarding how to buy tickets and other information, see the flyer below. Tickets are selling fast so don’t miss out!

Have a good week.

Moana Jr. – The Middle School Musical

Our Middle School tamariki are working hard in their preparation for the Moana Jr. production next week. There are four shows across Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 September and all of our middle school tamariki will be part of each performance.

We are loving the support of our community with the number of tickets already bought to come along and see the show, Tuesday is already sold out! It’s important that we outline that our goal with selling tickets is to cover the costs involved with running the show, including external production, licensing, lighting and sound etc.

We also appreciate that this may not be an activity that all whaanau can afford to attend. We have the capacity to provide tickets for anyone who would like to come along, but it would create a financial burden for. If this is you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Andy Jones (andy.jones@waterlea.school.nz) and we can arrange tickets for you.

If you would like to buy tickets you can do so on this link :

Performance Dates:

Tuesday 15 (SOLD OUT!!), Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 September @6:00pm

Thursday 17 September @4:00pm

Location: Waterlea School Hall

We are looking for additional whaanau support to make this a success, both in the lead up to the and during performances. If you are interested in helping, please email andy.jones@waterlea.schol.nz so we can add your name to the list.

Attendance

Our attendance rate as a school for the eighth week for Term 3 is at 63%. The main reasons for absences continue to be sickness and term time holidays. We know there are alot of flu and colds going around at the moment so if you children are unwell, keep them home for a day or two so they can return to school when they are better. We are keeping the heating on in classrooms longer to ensure our tamariki are warm at school.

As always, please remember to let the office know if your child is going to be away and the reason for the absence. This information will allow us to enter the correct attendance code for your child. You can phone the office on 096364233 or email reception@waterlea.school.nz.

If your child is going away during the school term please email principal@waterlea.school.nz with the details for the absence and the dates your child will be away.

Keep up this great mahi in ensuring your children are coming to school each day!

Week-Bix Kids Tryathlon

South Auckland Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

The South Auckland Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon will be held on Tuesday 24 November at Mountford Park, Manurewa. Our school has registered for this event, but please note that parents are responsible for entering their child and supporting them with training. It’s a fantastic opportunity for tamariki to give it a go, build confidence, and have fun being active! We will have the school marquee set up so athletes have a central meeting place and can support each other.
You can join the school team by visiting the Weet-Bix TRYathlon website: https://tryathlon.co.nz.
