Middle School ‘s Trip to Te Tuhi Art Gallery – making their dream houses

Middle School ‘s Trip to Te Tuhi Art Gallery

Nathan’s story and dream house

Kia ora Waterlea Whaanau

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter and referenced below, Waterlea’s School Board is engaging in a community strategic plan consultation and your voice is valued. Below is a link to their survey where you can express your aspirations for our kura going forward to check this out. Also check your email inbox because this link will be emailed out too.

This week we connected with the Mitey Foundation who will be collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team next term and with tamariki and kaiako in 2027. The Mitey Foundation was set up by Sir John Kirwin and works on the premise that it takes a village to raise mentally healthy and thriving children. Mitey takes a school wide approach to mental hauora, wellbeing. Every part of the Mitey journey brings together teachers, staff and communities around one common goal – mentally thriving children. More information will come out next term about what it means for Waterlea to be a Mitey school and what it looks like in the classroom.

Last week was a busy week for our tamariki enjoying their Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) learning activities. The Junior School visited Ambury Farm for their ‘Milk It Experience’ and the Middle team visited Te Tuhi Art Gallery where they designed and created their dream houses. Thank you to all the parents who have helped out for these trips – we really appreciate it! Check out the photos below of our tamariki enjoying their EOTC.

Have a good week.

Waterlea School Board Community Consultation

Kia ora whaanau,

The Waterlea School Board is developing our 2027 – 2028 Strategic Plan, and we would really value your voice.

This short anonymous survey asks about your child’s experience at Waterlea, what is working well, what may need strengthening, and what you believe should be prioritised for the future. It also includes a few questions about Waterlea’s next principal.

The survey should take around 5 – 8 minutes

Every response contributes to the Board’s understanding of the school community. The themes, strengths and areas for development that emerge will help inform strategic planning and future action. This survey is not part of Waterlea School’s complaints process, so if you would like a specific matter to be followed up directly, please use Waterlea School’s Raising Concerns and Complaints process.

Please complete the Waterlea Whaanau Survey here

Please respond by 18th of September

Ngaa mihi,
Waterlea School Board

Attendance

Our attendance rate as a school for the seventh week for Term 3 is at 69%. The main reasons for absences continue to be sickness and term time holidays. We know there are alot of flu and colds going around at the moment so if you children are unwell, keep them home for a day or two so they can return to school when they are better. We are keeping the heating on in classrooms longer to ensure our tamariki are warm at school.

As always, please remember to let the office know if your child is going to be away and the reason for the absence. This information will allow us to enter the correct attendance code for your child. You can phone the office on 096364233 or email reception@waterlea.school.nz.

If your child is going away during the school term please email principal@waterlea.school.nz with the details for the absence and the dates your child will be away.

Keep up this great mahi in ensuring your children are coming to school each day!

Week-Bix Kids Tryathlon

South Auckland Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

The South Auckland Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon will be held on Tuesday 24 November at Mountford Park, Manurewa. Our school has registered for this event, but please note that parents are responsible for entering their child and supporting them with training. It’s a fantastic opportunity for tamariki to give it a go, build confidence, and have fun being active! We will have the school marquee set up so athletes have a central meeting place and can support each other.
You can join the school team by visiting the Weet-Bix TRYathlon website: https://tryathlon.co.nz.

Entry Options

  • Splash & Dash – 6 year olds only. Swim and run.
  • Individual TRYathlete – 7-15 year olds. Swim, cycle and run.
  • Teams of Two – 7-9 year olds (Juniors) and 10-15 year olds (Seniors). One team member does the swim, the other does the cycle, and both do the run.
