Last Thursday’s Pasifika Evening

Kia ora Waterlea Whaanau

Thank you to all our whaanau who came along to our Pasfika Performances and Talaona evening last Thursday. It was a wonderful evening where we enjoyed our tamariki performing Pasifika dances, we shared kai and engaged in talanoa where we connected with each other and shared ideas and aspirations for our Pasifika tamariki. This feedback will contribute to our School Board’s next Strategic Plan. The board is planning some other opportunities for whaanau to share their voice to the community consultation so watch out in the coming newsletter for more information about this. If you were unable to attend last Thursday or didn’t manage to give your feedback we have put the link in below;

Pasifika Whaanau Survey

Last week the seniors had a visit from Marcellin College who were coming to let our Year 6 students know about the different programmes and activities offered by their school. As it was Tongan Language Week, some of the Marcellin Tongan Group gave our students lessons in Tongan dance so they could experience one of the activities Marcellin offers to their students. We would also like to thank Marcellin College Tongan Dance Group for providing a lovely tuakana-teina learning opportunity celebrating the Tongan language and culture.

This week is busy for school trips with the Junior School visiting Ambury Farm for their Milk It Experience and the Middle team visiting Te Tuhi Art Gallery. Thank you to all the parents who have helped out for these trips – we really appreciate it! Check out the photos below of our tamariki enjoying their Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC).

Have a good week.

Ngaa mihi

Attendance

Our attendance rate as a school for the sixth week for Term 3 is at 76%. This is down from 79% last week. The main reasons for absences continue to be sickness and term time holidays. We know there are alot of flu and colds going around at the moment so if you children are unwell, keep them home for a day or two so they can return to school when they are better. We are keeping the heating on in classrooms longer to ensure our tamariki are warm at school.

As always, please remember to let the office know if your child is going to be away and the reason for the absence. This information will allow us to enter the correct attendance code for your child. You can phone the office on 096364233 or email reception@waterlea.school.nz.

If your child is going away during the school term please email principal@waterlea.school.nz with the details for the absence and the dates your child will be away.

Keep up this great mahi in ensuring your children are coming to school each day!

Week-Bix Kids Tryathlon

South Auckland Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

The South Auckland Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon will be held on Tuesday 24 November at Mountford Park, Manurewa. Our school has registered for this event, but please note that parents are responsible for entering their child and supporting them with training. It’s a fantastic opportunity for tamariki to give it a go, build confidence, and have fun being active! We will have the school marquee set up so athletes have a central meeting place and can support each other.
You can join the school team by visiting the Weet-Bix TRYathlon website: https://tryathlon.co.nz.

Entry Options

  • Splash & Dash – 6 year olds only. Swim and run.
  • Individual TRYathlete – 7-15 year olds. Swim, cycle and run.
  • Teams of Two – 7-9 year olds (Juniors) and 10-15 year olds (Seniors). One team member does the swim, the other does the cycle, and both do the run.
