Tongan Language Week

Oku ou talitali lelei kimoutolu,

Welcome to Tongan Language Week. The theme for this week is Ko’etau hiva, ko e fe’unu mahu’inga ia ki he mo’ui’a e Tonga – Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture. It is fitting that our Pasfika Performances and Talaona evening is happening tomorrow, Thursday 20 August, at 5.30pm where our School Board consults with our Pasifika Whaanau about their ideas and aspirations for their tamariki looking into the future. Waterlea’s School Board is keen to collect the voices of our whaanau and this is our second formal event in which they will be doing this mahi. Please check out the invitation above and look out for the reminders in your email/seesaw inbox.

Thank you to everyone who supported our tamariki to dress as their favourite book character and came along to our book parade last Friday. It was such a joyful and colourful event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Please check out some of the photos capturing the book characters and parade below.

Next week we have a busy schedule with school trips for the Junior and Middle teams so keep a look out for seesaw messages and class notices regarding this.

The students shared their favourite book recommendations with each other. They went from Room to Room finding potential new reads.

Attendance

Our attendance rate as a school for the fifth week for Term 3 is at 79% . This is down from 84% last week with the main reasons for absences continue to be sickness and term time holidays. We know there are alot of flu and colds going around at the moment so if you children are unwell, keep them home for a day or two so they can return to school when they are better. 

As always, please remember to let the office know if your child is going to be away and the reason for the absence. This information will allow us to enter the correct attendance code for your child. You can phone the office on 096364233 or email reception@waterlea.school.nz.

If your child is going away during the school term please email principal@waterlea.school.nz with the details for the absence and the dates your child will be away.
