Kia ora Whaanau,
Ever wondered who is behind the flourishing blooms and pristine patches in our school grounds?
Our incredible Waterlea Garden Club has been hard at work every lunchtime, trading the play ground for trowels to act as dedicated kaitiaki (guardians) of our school environment. From their mahi of lunchtime weeding to the messy fun of fertilising, these students are learning that many hands make light work and a much greener school!
What’s happening in the dirt?
Eco-Warriors: Our team is busy identifying and removing invasive weeds to give our other plants room to breathe.
Soil Superheroes: We’ve been enriching our beds with organic fertiliser from our worm bins to ensure a bumper crop of veggies this season.
Kaitiakitanga in Action: By caring for our immediate environment, our tamariki are practicing the values of sustainability and respect for the whenua.
A huge ka pai to all our club members who show up with muddy knees and big smiles to keep Waterlea beautiful and their lead gardener Whaea Megan.
You can help too. The next time you’re in the office, check out the plants for sale display outside the office and our moth plant collection bin.
Keep up the good work Waterlea Gardeners!
Andrea Jamieson and the Waterlea Team
